24.11-30.11 Homework

  • Dec. 1st, 2007 at 7:16 PM

Let me congratulate everyone who's reading: today is the first day of Winter and I'm happy it's really a winter day. I'd like the whole winter to be just like today, maybe a little bit more sunny.

If I'm not mistaken I gave the new task only to the first year. Here it is.  Verb Tense Tutorial

19.11-23.11 homework

  • Nov. 26th, 2007 at 8:40 PM

Hello to everyone. I wonder if all of us has already started to dream about holidays :) I was so delighted to see New Year decorations in some shops. For me all these preparations and pre-holiday atmosphere make 99% of the celebration. Well, but I'm here unfortunately not to talk about it yet. :(( So, your homework...

First year is going on with Passive Voice. And with Internal Combustion  Engine. And with Computer Art. You can find all this stuff in previous posts.

Second year has started Gerund. PN has to read a text about Ethernet. Here is everything for this.

Third year has started dealing with business English and the first topic is business letters. You are also revising conditional clauses.

A Nice Reply, isn't it?

  • Nov. 19th, 2007 at 9:48 AM

On Thaturday when I was greeting my students with the Students' Day I recieved one reply from  all of those I have in my ICQ. It made me laugh every time I got new reply :))

Some Weekend Impressions

  • Nov. 18th, 2007 at 9:47 PM
snowfall
Music. Yeah! There was a lot of it and everything thanks to one guy to whom I can't help thanking. First, I got the recordings of Bryan Adams's 1991 album which I had not been able to find for some years. Second: I "discovered" Mad Caddies which impress me a lot.  I've been singing their "Drinking for 11" all day long and hope to play it on guitar soon :) That's just the type of music which is a kind of extension of myself.  Drinking for 11

Books. I've finished reading one of my favourite books "In Desert and Wilderness
by Henryk Sienkiewicz and I was full of emotions again although I've read it for more than ten times. I wonder if anyone of my students has ever read it.

Football. Or is it better soccer? ((( I feel disgrace! No more comments. And I don't want to think about Wendsday match.

Video. I only managed to watch Shrek the Third on Saturday. I didn't like it so much as I liked Shrek 2 but still there were some really funny moments. Especially I liked that one with Snow White singing her beautiful song that gently transformed into Led Zeppelin's  Immigrant Song  - I was surprised to here it there.

Weather. I like  the landscape outside but unfortunately I  can't really admire it as I've cought a cold.

And right now I'm dealing with a very serious problem of parallel universes and I'm trying to define if I believe in them or not.
Do parallel universes really exist?

The Most Impressive Superlatives

  • Nov. 17th, 2007 at 2:07 PM

Here I'd like to list some of your answers to the questions containing Superlatives. These are the most impressive I've ever heard:

What's the worst thing that anyone has ever said to you? - I love you
What's the best thing that has ever happened to you? - Entering KPI
What's the most luxurious thing you'd like to own? - A red grand-piano. An island
What's the ugliest thing you have? - Not fresh milk in a fridge
What's the silliest thing you've ever done? - A guy from PN-72 shot his own palm with a pneumatic gun
:)))

If you can think of some other answers for these questions, you're welcome to post them here

29.10 - 02.11 Homework

  • Nov. 5th, 2007 at 8:52 PM

This week we have started a new topic connected with happiness. It's one of my favourite, I have to say, as I'm always excited to hear different points of view on some related problems. It was not surprising for me to hear that health, happy ralationship and money are at the top of your "happy list" but I was upset to hear that sunshine, hiking and exercises are at the bottom :((( because these things really make ME happy. You will have another chance to express your thoughts concerning this matter in your essays. I was also very excited to hear your stories answering the questions "have you ever..." So, we go on revising Present/Past perfect and here are some exercises for you Present_Past_Perfect In some groups we have already started Internal Combustion Engine and here is the text Internal Combustion Engineine The second year students have started dealing with Gyroscopes and I offer you the text from Wikipedia that is much more sensible that that from the metodichka.Gyroskope

Yeah, I am! As I have already told you at the first lesson the main task of the 3d year students is to learn how to make presentation on your speciality. In some groups we decided to work on such an interesting topic as robotics and I've prepared some texts for you based on http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/robot.htm. We will use these texts for reading and translating. I have also found some other interesting information which you can use for making your presentation and here are the links:

talking about the summer of 2007

  • Sep. 9th, 2007 at 3:19 PM

The first week has passed. I've met almost all my students and I was really happy to see almost all of them (there were some exceptions, unfortunatelly). Quite naturally we spent the first lesson of this studying year not learning but speaking and sharing our summer impressions. And I have to say there were really lots of them. I even decided to make a chart of the most interesting 2007summer holidays:

1. So, the first place belongs to Zhenya from PN-62 (Two trips to Mosсow, two visits of orphan houses, one week at the seaside, a work in a recording studio, a visit to a VIP gym and so on)

2. Alena from PO-51 (A visit to St. Petersburg,
one week at the seaside and canoeing trip)

3. Michael from PM-51 (a trip around Europe)

4. Max from PM-51 spent his summer diving at the Cape of Meganom.

5. I was happy to hear from 2 of my students about their expierence of sailing. Elena from PM-51 tried windserfing and Olya from PN-62 - sailing on a yacht. The girls expierenced real extreme and I'm sure have become real fans of sailing.

6. Crimean caves visited by Anton  and Aipetry under the rain  - by Alexsey
from PG-61

There were also beautiful sunrises and sunsets, cool birthday parties, discos, campings, girl- and boyfriends, tatooes  and even scars - and that I'm sure you will never forget. And I hope those students who spent that summer working and earning money have got good experience for future and enough money to make some of their dreams become true.

One more start

  • Sep. 1st, 2007 at 10:36 PM

Today our country is celebrating the day of knowledge - a nice holiday, isn't it? I wish all my students to get as much knowledge as possible this year but not to forget to get fun as well  (this I'm sure you will never do).  I hope all of you have had a good rest this summer and I'm eager to hear some interesting stories from you next week.

I was extremely happy yesterday: almost all the groups I had last year are in my schedule again! I will be also very glad to meet first year students: I've got 3 groups! Unfortunately I'm saying goodbye to ПМ 51-52, ПН 41-42 and ПН-42 but I still hope to meet with you and will always be glad to help you. Good luck!

See you on Tuesday :)))
P.S. I've got my ICQ program reinstalled on my PC and I don't remember login, I'm terribly upset, but I can't get there :(((

Happy Birthday, dear IMD (ПБФ/ПСФ)

  • Apr. 25th, 2007 at 8:02 PM

These days we've been celebrating our department's 45th birthday. Yesterday there was a great show in DK KPI with the culminational  momemnt  with your favourite teacher Boiko giving you "sharas".  I was so happy to see your favourite heros, who I've heard about so much (such as Boiko and Sulima). I'm very sorry for one of my students (Max from PM-51-52)  who got "shara" but was not present unfortunately. (It seems last year Max didn't pass TOE and had to wait a year). Great Unluck!  My wishes for studens: excellent results in everything, more luck, kind teachers, good friends, real love and allyourwishesbecomingtrue.

Alex and Yaroslav, it's a real mysticism or great luck: it seems you are real friends and are always together and even those 2 English "sharas" were received by both of you - my congratulations

Oh, I was surprised to see that you remember how to do it

My opinion can be unfair but I really think that scenery with English head teacher A.M. Simonova was the funniest one.

I also heard 2 of my students singing: Polina and Dasha, you are real talents!!!

Oh, no..... Aaaaaaah!

This Day Every Year

  • Mar. 8th, 2007 at 3:01 PM

... we greet all women we know
That's why this wonderful day I want to wish real happiness, true love and eternal spring to all the girls of PBF especially those I see every week (I think the boys of PBF will join to these greetings)

Unfortunately I didn't manage to take pictures of the girls from PM-51-52 and PN-62 because almost all of them had gone home but my best wishes for you as well!
P.S. Special thanks to Sasha from PB-51 who made this wonderful picture!!!

And here is my present for you

Happy Birthday

  • Mar. 8th, 2007 at 2:44 PM

In this post I'd like to greet all those students who have recently celebrated their birthdays. Unfortunately I didn't know about every birthday but I know for sure that these students should be congratulated:
1. Zhenya and Rostislav from PN-62
2. Dennis and Dmitriy from PG-62

Next week celebrators:
1. Vitaliy and Olya from PK-61
2. Aleksey and Anton from PG-62

Best wishes for you these days!!!

And here you can see how we celebrated Dima's (PG-62) birthday on the 6 March

Everything was great and though we 'naturally' didn't drink anything our celebration

We were going to celebrate but we didn't...

  • Feb. 20th, 2007 at 10:37 PM
snowfall

Instead of this post there must have been the story about St. Valentine's celebration but there were no celebrations as everything was spoiled by my 'flu. I forgot that I should wrap up well in winter and I should keep my feet dry and warm. I've had to stay at home for the last week and I'll probably be back to my job next week. I hope we'll have more opportunities to celebrate some other holidays with you. Let's start working, shall we? Working? Oh, no, I've really forgot what it is...

I really miss summer with its sun and warmth and sea and...

We're going to celebrate...

  • Feb. 11th, 2007 at 2:36 PM

On Wednesday we're going to celebrate Valentine's Day in some groups and I desperately want to get presents from you in a form of songs. So, the hometask was to prepare the presentation of a song about Love and here is the guide on how to do it.

We have started

  • Feb. 5th, 2007 at 10:13 PM

Yes, the second term has started and I hope to see all my students this week, I hope nobody has been expelled from the KPI. I know how much force some students had to give to stay there. So now every first-year student knows: studying in the KPI is a real challenge where you sometimes can be found underdog. It must be a good lesson to you and you shouldn't be disappointed. So, get ready - the second term has started...

Having Doubts

  • Jan. 26th, 2007 at 4:02 PM
behave class
Today I've been choosing the topics for the first year students. I've decided that there must be 5 of them but I'm not sure which of them to give except for the first one. Here is the list:
  1. Maps, discoveries, history (Map shows Chinese discovered America)
  2. Nature, animals (Swim with Dolphins to reduce Stress)
  3. Being 18 (18-year-old elected as US mayor)
  4. Quality of  living (Luxembourg the world’s safest city)
  5. Medicines (Another killer Painkiller)
  6. Friends (Friends help you live longer)
  7. Endangered species (Congo conference to save great apes)
  8. Being bilingual (Half of Europe’s citizens are bilingual)
  9. Global Warming (Global warming threatens Arctic)
  10. Jogging (Researchers say jogging alone is unhealthy)
  11. Climate change (The year 2007 to be the hottest ever)
  12. Smiling (You can tell where someone is from just from their smile)
You are wellcome to vote! You have to decide which 4 of them you'll work on next term.

Looking Ahead

  • Jan. 25th, 2007 at 2:56 PM

I've got my new timetable
Mon: 1. ПБ-51         2. ПК-61   3. Time-out  4. ПО-51
Tue:                                              3. ПГ-62        4. ПМ-51-52
Wed:                          2. ПН-42   3. Time-out  4. ПН-41-42
Thu:                             DAY_OFF
                           Fri:    1.
ПН-62         2. ПО-31

What is good about it: groups are comfortably placed according to the course, my time-outs are on the 3d lessons, not on the 2nd -  3d lesson is just the right time to drink a cup of coffee
What is bad about it: unfortunately I have to say goodbye to ПМ-62; some lessons are in the 21st building - I hate it, there are no lessons in 324 - my favourite classroom

Marry Christmas!

  • Jan. 5th, 2007 at 10:44 PM

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays – not simply because of some nice traditions and presents. I love this holiday because it’s really a Holy Day – and I really miss such days in my life – days full of light and mysteries, full of hope and faith, full of confidence that our life is a miracle.
